Tanja N. Winkler, DVM

Dr. Winkler is a nice German girl who hails originally from NYC. Her quest for education led her to several exotic and glamorous locales including: the North Bronx, Northern Vermont, and Manhattan, Kansas (“The Little Apple”). After obtaining her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University, she completed a one year internship at a clinic on the central coast of California. She stayed out there for three more years following the completion of her internship. There she met her husband and obtained one of their cats, Opal. Deciding they were sick of great weather, fresh avocados and phenomenal wineries, they picked up and moved to the bustling metropolis that is Altoona in 2010, where they obtained the second of their cats, Lucy Fur.

In her rampant spare time, Dr. Winkler effortlessly balances mild obsessions with knitting, spinning, quilting, bread baking and gardening with the demands of chasing a rambunctious toddler, whom no baby gate can contain. Together with her husband and said toddler, she is overly fond of ridiculously long road trips squashed into too-short weekends, and dreams of going further abroad whenever possible. They are also expecting a baby girl at the end of May, who is currently proving to be just as vigorous in her acrobatic prowess as her older brother.

Lauren Ritchey, BVMS

Dr. Ritchey is originally from Hershey, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and Biology from Temple University. She went on to earn her doctorate from University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland and is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. She has a special interest in shelter medicine and enjoys devoting her time to helping homeless pets. Her studies and interests have taken her all over the world- from Africa, where she helped to rehabilitate baboons and other primates, to Cyprus, where she helped care for and spay and neuter stray cats and dogs. She’s spent the last few years gallivanting around Europe and is now happy to be back home and ready to settle back in to Pennsylvania life. She shares her home with her fiancé Jeff and their 3 rescued mutts- Ziggy, Molly, and Olive.

Dr. Uplinger

Dr. Uplinger was born and raised right here in Blair County where she grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Williamsburg, PA. She attended Messiah College where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She then ventured to the Midwest where she went on to earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University. After graduating, she settled in Park County, IN to work in a mixed animal practice – she did both small animal and dairy work and sale barn work. It was there that she met and married her husband. They later moved even farther west to Missouri in hopes of starting their own beef cattle farm. However, they had 2 children within one year, “Irish twins” and so decided to move back to PA to be near family. Dr. Uplinger, her husband and now 4 children have lived here in Blair County for the past 13 years. She enjoys spending time with her family, keeping up with their sporting events and loves helping them with their 4H projects consisting of market hogs and lambs. They also have 1 horse and several barn cats at home.
